Literature Text

I wrote and rewrote
In the dark
In the cold light of morning
Under dim classroom lamps
Pen tearing into scraps of paper
Fingers clumsily tapping the keyboard
Time after time
Day after day
Month after month
Music in my ears, in my head
Guiding my hand
My letters to nobody

I wrote and rewrote
Of my sorrows and pains
Fantasies and dreams
Childish fancies and desperate follies
Secrets that could never be spoken out loud

I wrote and rewrote
Putting a finger to my lips
Forcing a smile
Trying not to burst apart

I wrote and rewrote
Until
I closed the notebook
Just another notebook
And put it away
With a few parting words
And it ended in "anymore"

Much rain has fallen
And sun shone
And time flown by
And much I learned
Of leaving
Of wandering
Of coming back again

I write and rewrite
My songs of new and my songs of old
Searching for paths with a keener eye
Fate is a web of strings
Woven between your fingers
And chance is something you never see coming
And leaving
And staying
Truth is hanging between
Blind faith and emptiness

So maybe once more
Maybe just once more
I will sit down and write
A letter to nobody
When I was younger, I used to refer to some of the poems I wrote as "letters to nobody". That's because they seemed to be aimed at someone - using many "you"s and the like.
This is clearly not one of those.
But it's relevant.
